Fall Ball Information

General Information             Softball                            Baseball

Registration

Registration will be through our on-line system and the registration for fall ball is now operational and will be open through the end of August.  Spaces for the minor, major and junior division will be limited based on the number of teams that we can field with adequate volunteer coaching assistance so please register as soon as possible as registrations will be take on a first come, first serve basis.

Cost and Uniforms

We offer fall baseball at a reduced cost from our spring baseball for Midget, Minor and Major Division players.  Accordingly we give all players tee shirts and major league hats only and players supply their own baseball socks and baseball pants.  Junior division baseball cost is more than for the other divisions as outside umpires are used for games and they are paid for their time so we need to charge more to recover umpire costs.

Volunteer Coaches and Umpires are Needed

We will need parents to volunteer to help manage and coach teams this fall.  We can only offer this program if parents volunteer to coach the teams and the number of teams that we can field will be limited by the number of parents that we have help coach. We also need to supply umpires for any home games for the minors and major divisions so if you have always wanted to give umpiring a try the fall is the right time to jump in and see if you like to umpire games. If you have not coached a team before but always wanted to try it please volunteer as Fall Ball is not as stressful as spring ball and we take a laid back approach and really offer this program as a way to continue to have our players have access to baseball in the fall.  If you dont have experience coaching but have a background in baseball we can team you up with coaches with experience so you can be offered the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches.  Please indicate your willingness to help coach when you sign up your son for fall baseball via the registration link on our website.  If you want to umpire games please let your child's coaches know and they can help get you time in games to umpire either behind the plate on the bases.

Age Groups

We will offer fall ball for the 7 and 8 yr old age groups which we refer to as our Midget division.  Players will play for the age group that they will play for in the spring 2011 season.  For example if your child was baseball age 6 for the past 2010 season (they were 6 before May 1 2010) they will play in the 7 yr old age group for fall baseball for 2010 so they can get used to playing at the age level that they will play at for the spring 2011 season.

We will also offer fall baseball for the 9, 10 and 11/12 year old age groups.  The juniors program for the 13 and 14 age groups will also have a program this fall.

Timeframe for Fall Ball

Play will start the weekend after Labor Day weekend and go through the end of October.  If you are participating in the 9 thru 12 age group, games will be on Sunday afternoons.  The Juniors program play games on Saturdays and Sundays.

Fall Softball Structure

Hello, SB parents and players.  As Fall approaches, so does Fall Ball!  We had a great turn out last year and the girls had a lot of fun.

Our older girls will be playing other District teams and games will be scheduled in just a couple of weeks.  Our youngest players will participate in Skills and Drills andintersquad scrimmages with maybe a game or two with non-UPLL teams if there is interest.

Fall Ball sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons, probably ~ 1PM.  For planning purposes, PLEASE register your daughter as soon as you can for Fall  Ball so we have an accurate player count and  can go into our scheduling meetings knowing how many teams we will field.  We also need to order tshirts for the players.  For the first time, we will have pitching instruction this Fall for three or four of the Fall Ball sessions.  Coach Melissa Finley from UPenn's softball team will evaluate each pitcher and offer guidance and suggestions as to how to improve each pitcher's performance.  There will be an additional charge for this -- likely $5-$10 per session, depending on how many pitchers are interested in receiving her evaluation.

Again, please take a few minutes to register your daughter this week -- it
really will help us to properly plan the season and insure a better experience
for our girls.

If you have any questions on fall baseball please email  Bob Sprague who coordinates fall softball for our league at UPLLFALLBALL@verizon.net .

Fall Baseball Structure

Midget Age Groups

For midget ages which are 7 and 8 yrs of age there will be a mixture of skills and drills work which is basically practice with a focus on skills that are not typically developed during the normal spring season.  For example, bunting and baserunning skills in addition to position skills (catching and pitching) will be reviewed.  The plan is to do the skills and drills workouts for a few weeks and then organize scrimmages with the players or bring in teams from outside the league to scrimmage our teams.  This is a great learning experience for these players as there is more of a focus on developing specific player skills which we dont always have time to do during the spring season.  It will also be an excellent time for kids that might not have previous experience playing baseball to join our league and work on skills that they will need for the upcoming spring 2011 season.  Fall ball will only be held on Sunday afternoon there will be no practices during the week.

Minor Division Age Groups

This division is for the 9 and 10 year old age groups.  The 9s and 10s will play in the District 27 fall baseball league and they will play games on Sunday afternoons typically at either 1pm or 3pm.  Games will be at our UPLL complex and also away at other leagues in our district (Exton, Berwyn-Paoli, Pottstown, Coventry, Great valley, Lower Merion, Devon-Strafford, Lower perk etc).  About 50% of the games will be away games.  There will be separate teams for the 9s and 10s and we will limit the number of players on any team to 12 players so all players can get playing time.  As the sizes of teams are limited and the number of teams are also limited, registration preference will be given to players who have previously played little league baseball for UPLL. We divide the talent on the teams evenly so that the teams are evenly matched so it is difficult for us to take requests for certain players to play together on any certain team.  If you have a request for purposes of sharing rides we will do our best to honor it but we can not promise that all requests will be honored. Fall ball will only be held on Sunday afternoon there will be no practices during the week.  Initially there might be a few practices during the week before the first game in order to set the teams and it is the managers decision as to whether they want to hold practices during the week for the rest of the season.  If they do decide to hold practices those practices will be optional for the players as we understand players might have other commitment for other sports during the fall.

Major Division Age Groups

This division is for the 11 and 12 year old age groups.  The age groups will play in the District 27 fall baseball league and they will play games on Sunday afternoons typically at either 1pm or 3pm.  Games will be at our UPLL complex and also away at other leagues in our district (Exton, Berwyn-Paoli, Pottstown, Coventry, Great valley, Lower Merion, Devon-Strafford, Lower perk etc).  About 50% of the games will be away games.  These age groups will play together and we will limit the number of players on any team to 12 players so all players can get playing time. Junior Division Age Groups

This division is for the 13 and 14 year old age groups.  This age group plays on a regulation baseball field with a 60 foot mound and 90 foot bases.  The age groups will play in the District 27 fall baseball league and they will play games on Saturday and Sundays. Start times for games on Saturdays can be from 9am to late afternoon and Sunday games are typically in the afternoon.
