History

The Upper Providence Little League, located in Oaks, PA is a fully chartered Little League organization in Pennsylvania District 27. The league has been chartered as a Little League organization since 1991, although the organization has been in existence since the mid 1960's. UPLL services the areas of Upper Providence Township, Phoenixville, Royersford, Spring City, and Audubon. There are over 700 children that participate in our league each year. We accept all children ages 5 to 18 that want to play baseball and softball. In addition UPLL has a challenger division for children with special needs. As a member of Little League Baseball our league is provided with the support and guidelines form its headquarters in Williamsport, PA. Little League Baseball was founded under the principle that all have a right to play, and that the league will build character, courage, and loyalty, as described within the Little League logo.

The origin of the league can be traced back as far as 1902 having many different names throughout the years including the Oaks Lions Club, Oaks/ Audubon Youth League. UPRA and now UPLL. The actual founding father of the league was Jim Sherman. Jim formed the league in the fall of 1992 when the community voted to keep UPRA a participation league. The travel team later became the Spring Ford Sting. Even today, UPLL continues to be a strong feeder league for their organization. Many of our players have moved onto very successful college careers through participation in both leagues. The original UPLL founding group included Jim Sherman President, Ron Clark - Vice president, Paul Bochnack Treasurer, Members - Larry O'neill, Wayne Evans, Bob Gilinger and Howard Huber. In 1992, the leagues enrollment was 225 today it is over 700!

Challenger League

The Challenger Division of Little League Baseball was established in 1989 to enable boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5 through the completion of high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide.  Our UPLL Challenger program is a "play for fun" league which emphasizes fun and team participation.  Some kids hit from a batting tee, while others use "coach pitch", and everyone gets a chance to bat every inning.  We typically play 2-3 innings on the weekends against other Challenger teams from around the area.
